Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a sleepy part of Montreal Island known as West Island. This part of Montreal is known as the West Island has a lot of different communities. For those who haven't been aware of it frequently confuse it with a separate, west-facing island. Amanda Brugel was born there and her time in the city wasn't long. Brugel grew-up in Courtice close to Oshawa in Ontario. Early ambitions were to become an expert dancer. Then, a growth rate increased her height and she outgrew all of the dance partners she was able to have. In a recent interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I am 6 feet, 1 inch." Once I was bigger than my male counterpart, I stopped. Numerous former dancers choose to become actors. For Brugel it was because of the advice from her drama teacher at her high school which pushed her to the path she required. The teacher suggested she try to get a role for school's annual production. After a few auditions the role, she was chosen as the leading lady in Anne of Green Gables. This led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program which she graduated with an Associate in Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Her career spans 20 years and she has performed in more than 60 shows, both on big screens as well as smaller screens. Her most notable role was the one of Rita (pictured beneath) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel, the only Canadian of the season 1 The Handmaid's Tale cast and seen only occasionally, was the only Canadian.
